Historic Downtown Luray- Celebrates the Season with a Street Festival! Stroll Main Street lined with fine crafters, delicious food and live entertainment. EnjoyVirginia wineries and breweries showcasing their vintages in a relaxing atmosphere. See a duck race along Hawksbill Creek where winners are awarded a cash prize. Fun times for the whole family!

Located in Virginia’s famous Shenandoah Valley, Luray offers an impressive selection of recreational activities, major attractions, and cultural history. Also home to historical sites and popular attractions dominated in natural beauty and wonder, Luray offers residents and visitors a unique experience of both Virginia’s delicately preserved past and commitment to a growing future. Luray is the county seat of Page County. Our town’s population is approximately 5,000. A small town rich in tradition and community, with people and business dedicated to cooperative improvements and enhancements.
Luray Downtown is the location of the overwhelming majority of our town’s cherished historical sites and points of interest. From Civil War-era landmarks, to restored properties dating back to the 1700s, to quaint shops, charming bed and breakfasts, and unique restaurants and cafes, Luray offers something for everyone. Downtown Luray is a Virginia Main Street Community managed by Luray Downtown Initiative, a nonprofit 501(c)3.
Luray Downtown Initiative (LDI), is responsible for managing downtown as a recognized Virginia Main Street community, following “The Main Street Approach” to effectively address the complex and changing issues facing the downtown business environment. The Main Street Approach provides a flexible framework that puts the traditional assets of downtown, such as unique architecture and locally owned businesses, to work as a catalyst for economic growth and community pride.
LDI is the authority on Main Street and is tasked with tenant advocacy, public relations, marketing, event coordination, community support, and program administration of the “Main Street Approach” to revitalization outlined by Main Street National Trust. Under this approach four points are identified and organized as committees staffed by volunteers. Along with the Program Director, these committees shape the environment downtown.
VISIT LURAY, VIRGINIA
Explore a Main Street lined with shops, inns, restaurants, arts and entertainment. Streets and sidewalks that echo history dating back to the 1800s, where rich detailed brick structures are adorned with locally inspired murals and large display windows.
Stop on a pebbled covered bridge that makes Hawksbill Creek, running through the center of town, passable by foot. We have free parking which leads you to paved wildlife and birding trails on the Hawksbill Greenway.
If you are looking for a birthday gift, you can find it in our many specialty and antique stores. Need a backpack, a book, or bicycle? Luray has these shops too. Insurance agencies, offices, banks and great lunch and dinner spots are all located on Main Street. Be sure to stop in and see our newly restored train station with a Visitor Center and museum.
